Remove troublesome teeth with Gentle Extractions

If you have a damaged, impacted, or decayed tooth, extracting it may be the best option. At Sapphire Smiles, Dr. Mina Antoun offers a full range of gentle extraction services and oral surgery options.

Types of EXTRACTIONS we offer

Basic extractions

Basic extractions are used to remove teeth that have been damaged by tooth decay or periodontal disease. The tooth is simply wiggled loose in the socket and pulled out with a pair of dental forceps. This prevents further pain, discomfort, and complications.

Bone Augmentation

We offer a variety of bone augmentation procedures, which may be required after tooth extraction to preserve and prepare your jaw bone for a dental implant. Our services include alveoloplasty, ridge expansion, and alveolar ridge preservation.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

The wisdom teeth are a natural part of our mouths that erupt from the ages of 17-25. However, they often do not erupt properly, since most of us do not have enough room to accommodate 4 extra teeth. Extractions may be necessary if your mouth can’t easily accommodate a new set of teeth.

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting may be required before the placement of a dental implant if your jaw bone is weak and cannot support an implant. Dr. Antoun will surgically place additional bone into your jaw, which will heal around the bone material. This strengthens it and allows an implant to be placed.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth Extractions

If your teeth don’t grow into your mouth properly, they could fail to fully erupt, and they will become impacted. This can cause pain and discomfort, and result in a higher risk of oral infections. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, they will need to be surgically removed by Dr. Mina Antoun to prevent these complications.

Signs that you need a tooth extraction

If you have a tooth that is seriously damaged by decay or an oral injury, or has become loose and is dying due to periodontal disease, you may need a tooth extraction. The best way to find out whether or not your tooth can be saved is by scheduling an appointment at Sapphire Smiles.

If your wisdom teeth are erupting, they may need to be removed if you notice serious jaw pain and discomfort, inflammation and swelling in the rear of your mouth, or a foul taste in your mouth. Contact Dr. Antoun for an appointment to find out if extraction is necessary.

The tooth extraction process?

For a basic tooth extraction, the process is simple. Dr. Antoun will numb the area, loosen the tooth in the socket, and pull it out with a pair of forceps. Then, the now-empty socket will be cleaned and sutured shut. This usually takes about 5 minutes per tooth.

For teeth that are impacted, a surgical extraction may be necessary. After numbing your mouth, Dr. Antoun will create an incision in your gums. Through this opening, the tooth will be extracted, and then the area will be cleaned and sutured shut.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare

It’s important to take it easy, rest, and follow the instructions provided to you by Dr. Antoun to ensure that your mouth heals properly. You will need to avoid physical activity for at least 2-3 days, and eat mostly soft foods for 3-7 days.

After about a week, your extraction site will still feel tender, but you should not be experiencing serious pain, tenderness, or bleeding. It will take about 2-3 weeks to fully heal from your extraction. Dr. Antoun will provide you with further information and tips for healing after your tooth has been extracted.
