How are dentists keeping their office safe from Coronavirus?

Now more than ever, health and safety are front and center in everyone’s minds. We all want to make sure we are doing our part to keep our community safe and healthy. As shelter-in place restrictions are being lifted, you may be feeling hesitant to get back to your daily routines. One thing you should not have to compromise in this uncertain time is your healthcare. And as oral health is integral to your overall well being, this includes visiting your dentist. You can feel confident about getting your dental healthcare routine back on track because the dentist’s office is one of the cleanest, most sanitized places you can go! Here at Sapphire Smiles, we have always been diligent about sanitation and sterilization, but now, we’ve also increased our safety measures to do our part in helping to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Patient Screening: We Care About You!

We love welcoming our patients into our office, and we are so happy to be able to reopen our doors to do so! To make this possible though, we now are taking the temperature of each patient using a touch-free thermometer before your appointment. We’ll also have you fill out a COVID-19 questionnaire as part of your welcome form. These new practices will help us keep you and our staff safe.

A New Patient Experience: Social Distancing in the Office

By now, we’ve all heard the rule: “Do your part, stay six feet apart.” We have rearranged the office to accommodate this social distancing guideline and prevent our patients from coming in close contact with others. We hope that you will remember to keep your distance from those who are not in your household. Of course, when you are in the operatory, it is safe for you to be in close proximity with your doctor and hygienists as we will be taking proper precautions and using the necessary personal protective equipment.

One of the things we love most about our office is our fabulous office amenities. We love pampering our patients, but for the time being, our patient experience is going to be slightly different. Individual water bottles will still be available, but we are preventing the use of the coffee machine and other communal items until further notice. Of course, we will do our best to reinstate our complimentary refreshments when it is safe to do so.

Increased Sanitation Measures

Another way we are helping to make our office a safe and clean environment is by increasing our sanitation protocols. We are now keeping doors open to prevent cross-contamination from unnecessary touching of doorknobs. We are also frequently wiping down the knobs of the doors that cannot stay open, like the bathroom door. Plus, the bathroom light is a motion sensor light so you won’t have to worry about touching the lightswitch.

In the operatories, we’re putting chair covers on the entire dental chair instead of just on the headrest. Throughout the office, we are routinely wiping down all common areas between visits.

All staff involved in any aerosol procedure will be wearing level 3 or KN95 masks, as well as face shields. Of course, this is all in addition to our standard OSHA safety measures, including autoclaving and disinfection procedures that have been in place even before COVID-19.
